Word's One Of The Happiest Patient
I write following my recent surgery, under the care of Mr P Surya, on October 27th of this year, carried out as a day case patient at Fairfield General Hospital, in Bury.
From arriving at Reception that morning I was treated with nothing but kindness, warmth, care and professionalism. Each member of staff fulfilled their role with quiet authority and respectful warmth and good humour. I eventually lost track of how many people played their role in what was a tour de force of professional organisation which showed a quiet will to deliver a first class patient experience. Day cases are particularly hard for patients and the Day Case Team at Fairfield work like well-oiled machine to get their job done, whilst keeping patients front and centre. Mr Surya’s Registrar was kind and on point, explaining something of the surgical process. Everybody played their part brilliantly from the Receptionist, to all of the different nurses doing all of the different necessary tasks to process each case through to completion. I was walked through to the theatre block by a kind and reassuring nurse. My Theatre Sister and Anaesthetist were, again, wonderfully kind and reassuring, humourous, caring and professional. Obviously I was fully asleep by the time I was in theatre for Mr Surya’s care.
My recovery room nurse/sister was, again, wonderfully kind as I transitioned back to painful wakefulness, where she made sure that my analgesia was doing its job and helped to reduce my fear. Finally, I was delivered to my partner outside the hospital, knowing that I had just had the care of a wonderfully committed team of people who, from top to bottom, showed an absolute culture of professionalism. Truly impressive.
I have worked in corporate governance for many years and part of my work at times was seeking to develop strong team culture, performance and goal orientation. This team is as good as the best if not better. A shining example of the NHS at its best.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say how impressive you are in your role. From the very first phone call from you when I was taken on to Mr Surya’s list you were totally efficient and professional, kind and caring. I said as much to Mr Surya at my post-operative appointment in clinic.
Please will you ensure that Mr Surya sees this letter and that the staff at the day case unit see it also.
My apologies for the delay in writing to express my thanks but I came down with an unpleasant virus which slowed my recovery.
My sincere thanks to you all.
Kindest regards
Patricia Smith
